How it works
How it works
The Galleri Test analyzes cell-free DNA in a blood sample using next-generation sequencing. By detecting unique DNA methylation patterns, it identifies cancer signals and predicts the likely tissue of origin. This allows for early detection of more than 50 cancers, often before symptoms appear, enabling earlier intervention and better treatment outcomes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Galleri test?
The Galleri test is a groundbreaking multi-cancer early detection blood test. With a simple blood draw, it can detect more than 50 different types of cancer, many of which do not currently have any standard routine screening methods (such as pancreatic, ovarian, liver, and esophageal cancers).
How does a blood test find cancer?
The technology relies on two natural biological principles:
DNA Shedding: Cells in your body—including cancer cells—constantly shed tiny fragments of DNA into your bloodstream, known as cell-free DNA (cfDNA).
Methylation Patterns: The Galleri test uses advanced machine learning to analyze specific chemical tags (called methylation patterns) on that DNA. Cancer cells have a distinct "fingerprint" or code. The test looks for this abnormal code to determine if a cancer signal is present.
Does this replace my colonoscopy or mammogram?
Absolutely not. The Galleri test is designed to be used in addition to regular, standard-of-care screenings, not instead of them. It is highly effective at catching aggressive or hard-to-find cancers, but standard tools (like mammograms, Pap smears, colonoscopies, and low-dose CT scans) remain the gold standard for their specific target areas.
